IDS successfully drilled an 800 foot crossing under Interstate Highway 5 in a
heavily congested and environmentally sensitive area near Carlsbad, California
earlier this year. The crossing was drilled in soft sandstone first down and
underneath the freeway, then up again rising 130 feet with 12 degree doglegs to
break into a 10’ wide road of a new subdivision. The pilot shaft took 26 hours
to hit the target from start to finish.
